Isn't religion about control?

I ask this here because of all the nuts in the Religion and Spirituality. But doesn't religion and its talk of 'sin' and 'morality', both of which change from generation to generation and from culture to culture, try to control behavior, law, ual ownership, maintaining the staus quo? It seems to concern itself with pie in the sky very little, actually.
