How do I get my cat to stop biting me?

My husband and I got a kitten from a shelter when he was about 7 months old. He wasn't a super friendly kitten then, but now he's over a year old, he's just down right mean! He bites me practically every time I pet him or pick him up, though he only rarely does this to my husband. He doesn’t claw or hiss or have any other behavioral issues besides biting. He is neutered, the only pet in a no-child household, and he is never left alone for more than four or five hours a day. I’ve tried giving him a little bop on the head when he bites, but that only seems to make him more agitated. How do I train this cat to stop biting me?
